When and Where can I sign up?
We will be having an Open House on August 30th where you can sign your son up for scouts. The Open House will be held in the Cafeteria of Woodrow Wilson Elementary at 7pm.
How much does it cost?
A membership with Pack 69 cost $50/year. That works out to about $5/month, plus your membership includes a subscription to Boys Life!
How are the scouts organized?
The boys are divided into 5 ranks: Tigers - 1st Grade Wolves - 2nd Grade Bears - 3rd Grade Webelos I - 4th Grade Webelos II - 5th Grade Within each rank the boys are divided into Dens. We call the entire collection of scouts a Pack.
How are involved are parents with Cub Scouts?
Tigers Parents are most involved at the Tiger Cub level. The boy and his parent or guardian join the den together and attend all meetings and activities together. Wolves & Bears Parents are vital to the Cub Scout dens, both in the role of home support and to help the den leader, but as their sons move into the Wolf and Bear ranks they are beginning to be more independent, and not every boy needs a parent at every meeting. The den consists of four to eight boys, a den leader and assistant den leader (usually parents of some of the boys), and often a den chief (an older Boy Scout or Venturer who helps the den leader). Webelos The Webelos den is much like the Cub Scout dens, but there is more emphasis on the boys learning to take leadership roles and preparing to become Boy Scouts. Pack Leadership We can always use parental involvement in planning and participation in our Pack wide activities: - Pinewood derby®—You can build and race a model car with your son.
- Blue and gold banquet—Cub Scouting’s birthday party—for all pack members
- and their families—in February.
- Camping—Overnight and day camp opportunities introduce your family to the
- camping experience.
- Service projects—Packs may participate in food drives, conservation projects, or other community activities.
- Field trips and special outings—Great ways to learn more about the people and places in your community.
Are there other cost during the year?
We try to keep the costs as managable as possible. We are able to do this through our Popcorn Sales and through our yearly membership fee. The most significant costs that are not included in the membership fees are the scout uniform and the scout handbook. Both of these can be purchased at the Scout Shop in Lewisville. The Scout Shop is a full line Boy Scouts of America distributor. It has uniforms, badges, awards, youth handbooks, and leader literature for all programs. It offers a variety of supplies and materials for youth activities and meetings. The Scout Shop carries camping equipment, and a variety of Scout apparel. Visit the New Online Catalog! You will need a shirt, belt & neckerchief. Approximate costs of new uniform items are: Uniform shirt $22 Neckerchief $5 Belt $6 Handbook $4.50
How often do the scouts meet?
Dens meet about twice a month....usually on Tuesdays, but the frequency and the day of the week that you meet on is up to the Den. Pack meetings happen once a month ususally on the 4th Tuesday of the month. They are held at Woodrow Wilson, usually in the cafeteria.
